Fundamentals of Wine Series

Wine 101

Course Synopsis: Are you a wine newbie or just interested in learning more about your favorite beverage? Wine 101 is the perfect class for wine professionals and enthusiasts who are new to wine or just want to increase their knowledge. In this class we’ll cover basic grape growing and winemaking techniques, learn the in’s and out’s of wine tasting, explore five “classic” varieties via tasting and guided discussion and have an all around good time.

Wine 201

  • Course Synopsis: A great follow-up to Wine 101, this course further explores five “modern day” grape varietal classics from the field to the table. Focusing on lighter style wines, we will explore sensory recognition and structural components of sugar and acidity. After honing our identification skills, we will cover grape growing and winemaking techniques that impact wine quality and create the aromas, flavors and structure we experience in the glass. Plus, receive an aroma list that will fold-up and fit in your purse or pocket.

Wine 301

Course Synopsis: The much awaited follow-up to Wine 201 and the final course in our “Fundamentals” of wine series, this class digs even deeper into understanding the full essence of wine. Focusing strongly on palate building and red wines, we’ll examine the importance of key structural components such as body, tannins and alcohol. After honing our identification skills, we’ll explore how the vineyard and winemaking process can impact these compounds and gain a stronger knowledge about their impact upon wine quality. You’ll learn not just the how, but the WHY behind what we experience and enjoy in the glass.

Wine 401

Course Synopsis: Do you love a good mystery?  Want to put your senses to the test?  Then this is the class for you!  

More than a parlor trick, blind tasting involves focused sensory skills connected to a keen puzzle solving mentality.  In this course we'll connect our senses and minds to unravel the mysteries behind the wines we find in each  glass.  We'll explore the process of deductive tasting to systematically answer key questions such as grape variety, growing region, winemaking style, with evidence from the glass.  

After this class, you'll be a better taster and gain key insight to continue improving one glass at a time.
